Tuesday Tutorial # 49

It's Tuesday already! I didn't think I was even going to get this done and posted before the day was over, but I'm almost there. Yay!

Are you having extreme weather? We did today. Some places in the Portland area got hail that covered the ground and looked like it had snowed. The hail was 1/2" across.

I didn't get any hail at my house, but I did hear lots of thunder rolling around and we lost power for just long enough so that we had to reset the microwave and stove clocks.

We also had torrential rain showers interspersed with breaks in the clouds that allowed the sun to dry the roads very quickly, even while rivers were still running down the edges! Ah, spring!

Here's the tutorial project of the week.

Sweetheart Banner

Yes, I know that Valentine's Day has come and gone. But I had an idea for a banner and I had to make it before the idea was gone.

I was making a pile of envelopes for my card making classes and the thought came to me to use the envelope punch board to create little envelopes for a banner. The smallest envelope on the board wasn't quite small enough so I just figured it out.

Stamp with Trude, Stampin' Up!, Valentine, Sweetheart Banner, envelope punch board, bird builder punch

I used last year's Valentines paper stack because I was just playing. But I think it would look really cute in this year's Valentine's paper stack too. Actually it might be even cuter in this years paper. Here's what the paper stack looks like. It's called Love Blossoms.

I also used Blushing Bride Glimmer paper, Real Red Glimmer paper, and Vellum.

I am so glad to see some sunshine today that I decided it was time to spread some sunshine around. Leave a comment on any post on my blog through the end of April 1st, then email me your address and I will send you some sunshine mail. No fooling!

Thanks for stopping by my studio today!

TBT Sale-A-Bration Gift Card Holder

Here's a card for Throw back Thursday. I made it in March for Sale-A-Bration and then never posted it on the blog.
I used the sun-ray technique. You make a template by cutting sections out of a piece of card stock to use as a mask. Then you put it on your card front and sponge color in the cut out sections.

This is a gift card holder made with the envelope punch board. It is quick and easy to make this gift card holder. You can view a You Tube video on how to make it HERE.

This Stampin' Up! set is no longer available, but a good substitute would be the Ray of Sunshine set.
I used the top of the cupcake builder punch to create the clouds and I used washi tape to create the lower card pocket.

Hand Stamped Sentiment's Color Challenge

Have you tried file folder cards yet? They are all over You Tube. I was making a card for a color combination challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments and this file folder was sitting on my desk. I had punched it out with the envelope punch board about a month ago and there it sat waiting for inspiration. All of a sudden it hit me, that would be a perfect background for this card.

File Folder card, Envelope punch board, Vivid Vases, Hand Stamped Senitment, spring, Stamp with Trude, Stampin' Up!

One thing I had to consider with this spring card and this color combination, was how to keep it light and bright enough to carry the theme...'Spring'. To do that I made sure that the darkest color was an accent, not the main color. It frames the card. The Midnight muse that is water colored on the vases is used with a light hand and has the effect of feeling like light coming in a window.

Here's a link to a video on You Tube that is a tutorial for the file folder card.

Supplies I used:
Vivid Vases stamp set
Springtime Hello stamp set
Midnight Muse card stock
Crushed Curry card stock
Watercolor paper
Designer Series Paper
Midnight Muse Stitched Satin ribbon
Crushed Curry Classic Stampin' ink
Midnight Muse Classic Stampin' ink
Tangerine Tango Classic Stampin' ink
Stazon Jet Black ink
Stampin' sponge
Aqua painter pen
envelope punch board
Stampin' Trimmer
Itty Bitty Banner framelits
Ovals collection framelits

Envelope punch board Child's Valentine

I was playing around with scraps and my Stampin' Up! envelope punch board and came up with this valentine that would be perfect for a child to give to friends at school.

You need some printed paper strips about 3 1/2" x 7" and some 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" plain paper scraps for the hearts.
Fold the printed paper in half, insert it into the envelope punch board, centered on the top edge. Punch. Align the top left edge with the center of the punch window and punch. Move it to the right edge aligned with the center of the window and punch, Flip it to the right edge and punch at about the half way mark, then punch the right edge at about the half way point. Insert the plain piece in the punch board and repeat the process, then trim the lower right and left pieces off in line with the punched edge.

Products used:
Envelope punch board #133774
Crazy Mixed-Up Love stamp set- Wood #131068, Clear #131071
Basic Black Classic Stampin' ink #126980
scraps of paper
